The countdown is on for Tom Jones’s most extreme ocean-plastic expedition ever. Tom will will embark from San Francisco on a 16-foot stand-up paddleboard bound for the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
The grueling four-month, 2,300-mile expedition will take him into the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. No one has ever attempted such a feat. If he succeeds, Tom will break his own 2010 paddling distance record, 1,507 miles from Key West to New York City (which broke his 2007 record of 1,250 miles from Oregon to Mexico!).
